Description
COME TO TENT STATE"S SUMMER RETREAT
WHAT IS THE SUMMER RETREAT?
At least twice a year everybody from Tent State/SDS gets together to practice democracy and prepare for the future. We’ll be going over what we’ve done in the past semester, we’ll all decide on what we want to do over the summer, and we’ll plan out how we’re going to do it. Also, we’ll be eating together, partying together, learning together and practicing democracy together.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
Email your confirmation to ==> xhansen@gmail.com <== ASAP. We’re asking everybody who is coming to contribute $20 to help cover food, housing, etc. but this will cover you for the entire weekend! Of course we will work out arrangements with anyone for whom money will be an issue. Nobody should be prevented from getting involved with our movement due to lack of funds! But the sooner you give us the heads-up the better; it takes a lot of planning, work and $ to feed a hundred hungry revolutionaries!
WHY SHOULD I COME?
Because it’s not democracy if you don’t participate! We need you to help us figure out our next steps for the summer and beyond. Our last two Retreats have been where we decided to take on: the Ward Campaign, the Walkout Against the War, Street University, etc. This Summer Retreat will be where we figure out where we will go next! Also: c’mon you will want to see all your friends and get to know all the cool new people who have gotten involved in the most awesomest revolutionary movement here in the US!
WHERE AND WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING?
Friday through Sunday, May 16-18. Mark your calendars! You can come 1 day, 2 days or stay all weekend! This year we’ll be holding the retreat in Piscataway, NJ which is right next door to Busch campus so you won’t be far from the action! We’ll make sure anybody in the area is covered for rides and housing. We'll be giving directions, etc. in emails following your confirmation.
WHAT'S IT GOING TO BE LIKE?
Workshops, discussions and decision-making all day, parties all night! Previous workshops included: moderator training, the history of the movement in New Brunswick, principles of Revolutionary Democracy, promoting democracy within the movement, etc. It’s also a lot of fun (ask anybody who has attended in the past).
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You will probably want to bring some or all of the following:
pencils, pens, paper, toothbrush & toothpaste, pillow, sleeping bag, etc. Also bring your energy, ideas and your vision for the future!
I HAVE A DIETARY RESTRICTION (ALLERGY, RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES, VEGAN/VEGETARIAN, ETC.) WILL FOOD BE PROVIDED FOR MY NEEDS?
Let us know in your confirmation email what your dietary specifications are and we will ensure your needs are met.
THE DORMS WILL BE CLOSED. WHERE CAN I STAY?
As long as you let us know you will need housing, we will make sure you have crash space. But let us know if you do ASAP so we can plan for this! It’s likely if the weather is nice there will be some people camping out. (This is Tent State University, after all!)
